Credit

Ever hear the adage that credit is a double-edged sword? Regrettably, many of us have been unfortunate enough to understand this in practice more so than in theory!

Credit as privilege
Credit is a privilege that lends to a life with less limitation. Money, supposedly, cannot buy happines, but it certainly comes in handy. It will never be a substitute for the close emotional bonds that develop between humans, but, specifically when times are tough, it is a great shoulder to cry on.

If you are faced with credit issues, stop and consider the following information. You have to start somewhere. If you are a novice, at the beginning of the journey, don't despair because you cannot seem to qualify anywhere. That can be the tough part, but it need not be fatalistic. If you are consistently being turned away for lines of credit because you have no record as of yet, consider yourself fortunate that you are only facing your lack of history - rather than the even-more-frustating scenario of being in the position of having to first clean up a checkered credit history.

You have a few alternatives if you are a credit rookie. You can get a card issued in your name in tandem with a family member's account (usually a parent). Remember to be completely responsible if you take this route. If you get stuck missing payments, you're not only hurting yourself, you're also hurting your parent - who - we should remind you - was kind enough to take a risk for your future growth and development. Or, if you are lacking in the willing-family-member department, you may consider a prepaid card. Coincidentally, this is also a safe haven for consumers who are repairing a past of credit mistakes. Consider it an investment. You can earn your way in, in either case.
